The first part of this quiz involves identifying helping verbs.
The second section will let you practice using the correct verb tenses in your sentences.
Underline the main verb once and the helping verb twice.
1. Marie was taken to the babysitter every
morning.
2. The milk is spilling from the carton.
3. Robin will sing the national anthem at the
ball game.
4. The witness had not told the whole truth to
the jury.
5. She was trying to remain calm, but he was
scaring her.
The verb tense must be consistent within a sentence.
Rewrite the sentences below so that the tenses are consistent.
Hint: There is more than one way to correct each sentence.
1. I am going to the grocery store and I bought
lettuce and tomatoes for the salad.
2. She takes her daughter shopping and they
bought school clothes.
3. Her friends told her he was bad news but she
goes out with him anyway.
4. Linda sent Bob for a movie and he comes back
without one.
5. You may think you are imagining it but it
really happened.
