Pre-Enrollment, Placement Testing & New Student Orientation

 Pre-Enrollment Workshops, Room 106

Academic advisors from the Counseling and Student Development Center offer pre-enrollment workshops during registration. During the workshop, students will complete the admissions application, review practice questions for the placement test, learn about applying for financial aid, and discuss requirements for certificate and associate degree programs. Campus tours are also available as time permits.

Pre-enrollment workshops are held Thursday evenings from 5:00-6:00 p.m. and Friday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Sessions are free but seating is limited. Call the Counseling and Student Development Center at 234-9337 or stop by the CSDC in room 107 to make a reservation.

Placement Testing, Room 200

To sign up for a test session, call the TEAM Center at 234-9315 or stop by room 253 in the Instructional Building. Disabled students who wish to have accommodations for the placement test should call the Special Needs Services Office at 234-9321 at least 48 hours prior to testing so that proper arrangements can be made.

Placement tests are held every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00-11:00 a.m., 1:00-3:00 p.m., and 5:00-7:00 p.m. Testing is free but seating is limited. Call the TEAM Center at 234-9317 to sign up.

New Student Orientation (NSO), Learning Technology Center, Room 211

Orientation is required of all new students prior to meeting with an academic advisor. NSO serves to prepare students for advising and registration, so in addition to learning about campus programs, services, and policies, students will also review their placement test scores and activate their myNMSU account; without one, students cannot use the online registration system. Because you must be admitted in order to activate your myNMSU account, you must be admitted in order to attend orientation.

New Student Orientation sessions are held every Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m. Orientation is free but seating is limited. Call the Counseling and Student Development Center at 234-9337 or stop by room 107  to sign up.

WebCT Orientations, Learning Technology Center, Room 211

WebCT Orientation is strongly recommended for students taking online or hybrid courses (part WebCT, part face-to-face). Students will learn how to use WebCT, including how to log in, post and reply to online discussions, send email, take an online quiz, and submit assignments.

WebCT orientations are held just prior to the start of the semester on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00-11:15 a.m., 2:00-3:15 p.m., and 6:00-7:15 p.m. Sessions are free but seating is limited. Call the Learning Technology Center (LTC) at 234-9263 or stop by room 211 to sign up.
