Withdrawals
If you receive Title IV Aid (Pell Grant, SSIG, SEOG,
Stafford Loans, or a Perkins Loan) and withdraw within the first 60% of the
semester, some of the aid you receive must be returned to the aid program.
When
you withdraw from the university, awards for the rest of the award year will be
cancelled. (For
example, if you withdraw during the Fall semester, aid for the Spring semester
will be cancelled). Note:
Your
account will be billed from the NMSU-Carlsbad Business Office. If
you fail to repay the university, a registration hold will be placed on your
account, making you ineligible to receive aid at any institution! Unpaid
accounts are turned over to Collections for payment.
If
you have a current or previous student loan, you are required to complete Exit Counseling even if you plan to return to school. The grace
period begins the date of withdrawal and repayment will begin after the grace
period expires (see
terms of your loan).
If you return to school, you may be eligible to defer payments by submitting an
enrollment certification form to your lender every semester. Forms are
available in the Financial Aid Office and must be signed by Registrar's Office
personnel every semester after classes begin. (You
must notify your lender or guarantee agency of any address change. Refer
to the Rights and Responsibilities section of your loan promissory note.)
Transferring
to another school
Financial aid cannot be transferred.
You must contact the central processor of your Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) by calling 1-800-4FEDAID (1-800-433-3243) so that they can
send the results of your application to the new school; you do not need to
submit a new FAFSA!
