Awards
An official
Award Notification Letter will be mailed to you once your file is complete. The
letter summarizes the type(s) and amount(s) of aid offered if you are a full
time (12 credit hours or more) student for grant aid and at least a half
time (6-8 credit hours) student for student loans. If you are enrolled less
than full time, the grant amount will be adjusted downward; if you are
enrolled less than half time, the loan will be cancelled. You must be
admitted to the university as a degree-seeking student in order to qualify for
Federal student aid.
Carefully
read the award terms and conditions on the back of the notice to determine the
type(s) of aid that you would like to accept and/or decline. Then go to
www.my.nmsu.edu and
click on the Student and Financial Aid Tab to complete the process. At this site, you will
need to accept or decline any loan or work-study aid that has been offered. The
university assumes that you will accept all gift aid offered (Grants and
scholarships)
If you accept a loan, you must complete
the Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note if this is your first loan at New Mexico State University-Carlsbad. Failure to complete these steps will delay
indefinitely the disbursement of these funds.
If you accept a work-study award, you must
print the award and take a copy to the Counseling and Student Development Center.
Jobs are posted in the Center and you will be instructed on completing
the hiring process. You may not begin to work until you have completed this
process.
Please contact your advisor in the
Financial Aid office if you have any questions regarding the award process.
How to Use Your Financial Aid to Hold Your
Registration
If you have
been awarded grants, loans, or NMSU-C scholarships,
you do not need to make a down payment when you register for classes.
If your
award is for anything other than Federal Grants, Loans or Scholarships, you must
make a down payment. You cannot defer your down payment with a work-study award,
Veteran Administration benefits, or employer reimbursements. Stop by the
Business Office to make arrangements for paying a down payment.
If you do
not stop by the Business Office after you register for classes, your
classes may be cancelled.
See your Financial Aid advisor if you have questions about your award.
